6th APRIL 1982 - SHUTTLE DIPLOMACY BEGINS

Alexander Haig, the Unites States Secretary of State, begins the diplomatic peace shuttle. The plan has three elements; both sides' forces to withdraw from the islands, an interim administration to be set up, and a long term settlement to be negotiated.

Francis Pym appointed Foreign Secretary

HMS Fearless departed Portsmouth.
