63 Squadron I write to you all, seeking your interest regarding the above titled event. Having conceived the idea over 6 months ago I plan with the help of a small ready formed committee to organise and conduct the above event sometime late May 2007; the exact date and location is yet TBC. The event will be open to ALL past and currently serving members of 63 Sqn RAF Regt. That in mind, those of you non-serving members can readily assist at this early stage by "Passing the Word". It may be that one of you has found fame and fortune. Perhaps even a National Lottery winner. "This reunion needs people like you". Now that I have wetted your appetite please read on: General outline. As you can see by my address I'm at the depot and experience would indicate that the messes here could not support such a large function. In addition, accommodation would be very limited resulting in minimum attendance and excessive costing. I therefore plan to utilise one of the major military type hotels/venues in London, something along the lines of the Union Jack Club. These facilities have ready dedicated large function rooms along with bars and associated staff, this as I'm sure you will agree would help reduce potential problems with administration and finance whilst promoting an individual one off cost for the event. In turn this would leave attendee's time and freedom to organise their own accommodation requirements. I must emphasise the next point. For obvious reasons Security will be of paramount importance. Therefore, only after final confirmation of a date and location will formal written invitations be sent to you. I will do this at least 3 months in advance of the event. (plenty of warning) The event would start at approx 1300 hrs (Meet and Greet) dress casual but smart, using of picture boards by year, attendee's can display pictures etc thus promoting conversation and reunion. As you can well imagine "The Bar" would be open throughout this period. The Meet & Greet should finish at approx 1700 hrs for the Pre diner admin break. Then making use of the same function room we sit down at 1900 hrs for dinner, the obligatory toasts, more drinks and maybe a short speech. We should then retire to the bar. If we are really lucky the illustrious QCS will conduct a short continuity drill display. Dress for this part of the event should be jacket and tie. Attendee's can plan their stay to reflect there needs. However, I'm sure you all have additional ideas for the event some of which can be added to the programme. Let us plan and progress whilst using the famous regimental statement "Keep It Simple Stupid". I do however welcome your ideas. Having previously been involved in similar projects. I foresee at this stage an individual personal contribution of no more than £40. This is by no means a fixed price but should cover your meal, some wine and maybe a glass or two of port for the toasts. Your accommodation will be your responsibility, costing will depend on event location, date and military discount. I will investigate all these options and ensure all of you are informed of any other offers available at that time. Those living in London may have inside information and may wish to pass this on. I am reliant on you all to make contact with friends old and new and to pass the word. Let us use our Corps initiative and skills in order to maximise the event and hopefully make this planned occasion a day to remember. Finally, if you feel you can help in any way, keen to attend or just interested, please drop me a line and I will add you to my address database for all future correspondence. You're postal & an email address along with a phone number is all that is required for now. I intend to produce a monthly newsletter (Via Email) keeping you all abreast of progress. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
