Air Engineering Mechanician 1
Allan Joseph McAulay, known as Mac, was born on 25th August 1946 in Glasgow, to John and Peggy McAulay. His father had served in the Royal Naval Defence Corps as a gunner, and so after attending school at St Peter's and Droitwich High School, Mac joined the Navy in November 1961.
Mac was able to indulge his hobby of filming the sights whilst visiting many countries during the next twenty years, also taking video of family and friends. His other main hobby was stamp collecting.
He married Barbara Hammond in Sheerness on the Isle of Sheppy on March 1st, 1969. They had met through a pen pal friendship that had developed from their first letter in 1966 leading to marriage and two very much loved children, a daughter Tara and a son Justin.
Mac was serving with the Flight crew aboard HMS Ardent when the ship came under intense and sustained enemy air attack whilst acting as picket for the landing force assembled at San Carlos Water. Ardent was severely damaged and later lost, also suffering the loss of more crew than any other ship during the Falklands War.
Allan Mac McAulay, a devoted husband and loving father whose personality and character are very much evident in his children, was much loved and will forever be remembered with pride by family and friend alike.
